This week’s Thirsty Thursday is the sweet, but sour bourbon cocktail known as the "Brown Derby". It’s history is a little shaky, but one fact that seems to remain true is it origins. The Brown Derby originated in Los Angeles, California – Hollywood to be exact. This restaurant-inspired drink has only three easy ingredients; bourbon, grapefruit juice and honey simple syrup. Not a big sweet cocktail drinker? Add more grapefruit juice. Don’t like the punch of sour in your happy hour treat? Add more honey simple syrup. The beauty of this drink is that you can adjust it to the acquired tastes of you and your guests. Cheers!

Ingredients

• 1.25 oz Bourbon 
• 2.75 oz Grapefruit juice
• 1 oz homemade honey simple syrup

Instructions

• Combine bourbon, grapefruit juice and simple syrup over ice in a cocktail shaker. Shake and strain into a martini or champagne coupes.
