Meet The Intern

We are so thrilled to have welcomed two new interns for this Summer! Meet Alyssa: Originally from California, Alyssa graduated in May from Cedarville University in Ohio. If that's not exciting enough, Alyssa is engaged to be married in March 2017! Keep reading to find out more about Alyssa's first day with us and The Old Cigar Warehouse. 

Today was an absolute whirlwind.  From the moment I arrived information was thrust on me, and it didn’t let up until the end of the day.  Fortunately I love information and I love new things, but my brain is still spinning from all of the documents and apps. Still, but I’m more excited than ever. 
 
Like most people who enlist in a summer internship, my biggest priority has been gaining real world experience in a place that has seen success and can teach me to be successful in return.  I know a growing company can teach me how to grow as a professional.  However, after the first day, I realize that I will be getting far more out of the experience than I had initially bargained for. 
 
Everyone was incredibly friendly and open and genuinely excited about what they are doing.  Now granted, it is work and no job is ever all play, but there seemed to be an overall sense of uniform dedication to the common cause—with a sense of humor mixed in. 
 
In the back of my mind I always knew I wanted to work somewhere like this, but after working numerous dead-end (and basically dead in general) jobs I began to doubt that an enjoyable, rewarding job would be achievable for me.  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard the saying “If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life.”   That saying has always discouraged me because none of the jobs that I have ever worked in the business industry have provided a work environment that excites and challenges me.  While I don’t mind tedious work, I’ve come to realize that I am not meant to be chained to a desk 40 hours a week.
 
So, I was thrilled when I realized that this opportunity would allow me to use both my schooling and my independent spirit.  I am incredibly excited to see how this summer unfolds, which is something that I have never been able to say about a past job.  I’m thrilled to see the inside of a growing, developing, dynamic business, and I’m ecstatic that I get to be a part of the growth!
